Over the next two weeks, sit back as I take you on an adventure of a lifetime to à la mode Paris. Say au revoir to your typical week and bonjour to Paris Design Week.
Our director at distinctive, Dean Boone, is lucky enough to be on the ground in Paris, exploring all that design week has to offer over the next two weeks. 2018 will showcase the eight annual Paris Design Week, which will include events such as the MAISON&OBJET furniture fair, as well as Le Off! The event invites French and international professionals, as well as the general public to showcase the best of design across all disciplines within Paris, as well as worldwide.
Some of the highlights we are looking forward to are The Maison sectors of the MAISON&OBJECT which includes the themes Unique & Eclectic, Craft, Today, and Forever. These varying sectors will allow for new ideas, inspirations, and trends to be scouted out from the differing trends interior design has to offer worldwide. With more than 3,000 exhibiting brands, there will definitely be a lot to take in. One brand we are really looking forward to is NellyRodi, a trend forecasting agency who will be taking over the Inspirations Space and Bookshop-café. They will be sharing and embracing the theme ‘Virtuous’, focusing on responsible makers, artisan-ship, fair trade, and environmental consciousness.
Other highlights that we cannot wait to hear about include the 2018 editions Designer of the Year, Belgium’s Ramy Fischler, an acclaimed contemporary designer and creative. With an obsession to ‘never repeat himself’ Fischler has explored his work in a number of forms including residential interior design concepts, restaurant design, and furniture design. As well as the Designer of the Year, the Rising Talent Section which this year will be dedicated to Rising Talents for Lebanon. Which includes designers Anastasia Nysten, Carla Baz, Carlo Massoud, Marc Dibeh, Paola Sakr, and Studio Caramel.
The eighth annual Le Off event will also be taking place as part of Paris Design Week. This is one super exciting event that I personally would be running towards if I were in Paris over the next two weeks, as over the past few years it has become a major springboard for up and coming designers and creativity. A selection of these exhibitors will be selected to take part in the RADO Star Prize, which we talked about in our blog a few weeks ago.
Paris Design week runs from September 6th – 15th with events taking place all through the city, specifically in four of the city’s most vibrant districts, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Les Halles-Marais-Bastille, Opéra-Concorde-Étoile and Barbès-Stalingrad-Saint Ouen.
