Corpus Christi Catholic High School is located in Oak Flats in the Illawarra region of N.S.W. This project allowed our team to develop and design outdoor spaces to provide passive and active learning spaces.
As a team, the services we provided to this project included the concept design, 3D visualisations of the space, construction documentation and construction implementation services. The design principles that drove the project included the idea of an outdoor learning environment, flexible congregation opportunities, and robust materiality and longevity.
This project included collaboration with Leaf Architecture, which allowed us to work together and bring both our varying skillset to the project in its entirety. A university-style campus palette was created in the early stages of design to enhance the existing built form. Key landscape elements including off-form concrete seat walls with colour insert panels, tile banding, a hardwood timber boardwalk for connection over a central vegetated swale, and trees for shade and scale have been used throughout the project to add textural elements and playful nature.
Utilising design services such as SketchUp and 3D Modelling have allowed for a clear and concise transfer of information when communicating with various contractors who have been involved with the project. Having a 3D render of the design meant that we were able to visually communicate our visions via a fly-through video without needing to be on site.
