Here in our office, we have the pleasure of working on all sorts of projects ranging from commercial fit-outs to residential designs. There is something truly special about being invited into someone life, in order to design a space they will soon call ‘home’.
Over the past few months, we have had the privilege of uncovering a trend within our residential designs. The trend of barn style living is something that truly inspires us as designers, and our clients. Being a design firm based on the rural doorstep of Sydney, we are blessed with the ability to design with the surrounding landscapes rather than against it.
Projects we have been referencing when designing for these clients come from broad range of designers, locations, and contexts. The Modern Stone Cottage in Ireland is well anchored into the physical and cultural context of the countryside location.
Designed by Peter Legge Associates, the striking features of this build include the merging of two dilapidated structures combining to become one modern stone cottage.
The use of glass throughout the build allows for maximum vantage point of the surrounding landscape.
New Zealand based architecture firm Red Architecture are responsible for the ‘Modern Barn Form'
Awarded ADNZ (Architectural Designers New Zealand) 2014 Supreme National Design Award for it ‘subtle, economical and clever design.’ The structure is positioned in the beautiful landscape of Whatawhata and houses a private residence and garage.
The stark Scandi-vibes given from the interior of the structure accentuate the rural New Zealand farmland on the exterior.
Not only beautiful to look at, the structure has been able to up-cycle bricks which have been taken from the devastating destruction caused by the Christchurch Earthquakes.
We are really excited about these up and coming projects, and look forward to showing them off in all their beauty. Watch this space.
